TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES
The need and desire to communicate in English is incredibly strong throughout the world, and teachers are uniquely positioned to be a blessing and a witness to others.
The TESOL is a 10-12 week seminar in Paris focused on training people to teach English as a second/foreign language in a Christian missions context. Learn how to teach English from a biblical worldview, run a classroom, and gain an understanding on how to start English teaching ministries to reach and disciple the nations.
The Lecture Phase consists of approximately 180 hours of class time, intercessory prayer, and worship. Plus around 20 hours of practice teachings and classroom observations. It also includes theories and practical application of teaching, speaking, reading, writing, listening, grammar and pronunciation of English.
The Practicum Phase is when the student becomes the teacher. It’s designed to give every seminar student hands-on experience in a real language classroom. Classes are taught in teams, and evaluations are given by both peers and TESOL instructors alike. Students will experience multicultural settings, discipling nations through teaching English, and bringing empowerment and biblical truth to people of diverse backgrounds.
High school diploma (or the equivalent qualifications)
Intermediate level English for those who have English as a second language (non-native speakers are welcome to apply, but must have a high standard of spoken and written English)
Belief in the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit)
Many life-changing friendships have been made in our classrooms. A testament to the power of teacher-student relationships and the promise of every TESOL seminar student’s future as a true world-changer.
KT, originally from the state of Michigan in the USA, has been with YWAM for 5 years, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and English, as well as a Master of Arts in TESOL with 4 years of teaching experience in diverse situations and locations outside of YWAM.
Recognizing TESOL as a great tool to reach the nations, KT has a heart for reaching the lost, training the found, and seeking to provide quality education to all, especially those in closed countries and refugee camps. She is passionate about TESOL because she sees the utilization of English as helpful in equipping others to share the Gospel, build relationships, and empower advocacy all while representing Christ.
